Sedation Policy
General Guidelines
Sedation is administered only when necessary. For critically ill patients, prior permission from the referring consultant may be required. A proper assessment is conducted before administering IV sedation. Informed consent from the patient or an attendant is mandatory, and prior appointment is recommended.
Preference in Children
In children, oral sedation is generally preferred over intravenous (IV) sedation wherever possible.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is generally effective in children weighing up to 10 kg. Parents are advised to bring the child in a fasting state as much as possible. Attendants should also carry milk or the child's preferred food. In most cases, oral sedation remains the preferred method for children.
IV Sedation
For IV sedation, a fasting period of 4 to 6 hours is required. Proper patient assessment is essential before proceeding with IV sedation.
