TSH
TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) — the primary screening test for thyroid disorders (hypothyroidism / hyperthyroidism).
About this test
TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) is the most sensitive first-line test for thyroid disease. Levels rise in hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid) and fall in hyperthyroidism (over-active thyroid). It is also used to monitor patients on thyroxine therapy and during pregnancy. Symptoms that prompt TSH testing include fatigue, weight changes, hair thinning, cold or heat intolerance, irregular periods and palpitations. A simple morning blood draw is all that is required — no fasting. At Classic Diagnostics, TSH is performed by chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA), the most accurate method, with same-day reporting.
