CYTOPATHOLOGY in Delhi

Cytopathology at Classic Diagnostics — Pap smear, FNAC (Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology), fluid cytology and image-guided cytology reported by consultant cytopathologists.

What is Cytopathology?

Cytopathology examines individual cells (rather than tissue blocks) to detect cancer and other diseases. It is faster, cheaper and less invasive than biopsy — and is the first-line test for cervical cancer screening (Pap smear), thyroid nodules, breast lumps, lymph nodes, and serous fluids.

Common cytopathology tests

Pap smear (conventional & liquid-based) · FNAC of thyroid, breast, lymph node, salivary glands, soft tissue · Image-guided FNAC (USG / CT) · Pleural / ascitic / pericardial / CSF cytology · Urine cytology · Sputum cytology · HPV DNA testing.

What to expect during FNAC

FNAC uses a thin needle (much smaller than a biopsy needle) under local anaesthesia. The procedure takes 5–10 minutes with minimal discomfort. Reports are typically available in 1–3 working days.

Frequently Asked Questions about CYTOPATHOLOGY

Is FNAC painful?
Minimal — the needle is thinner than a typical injection needle, and local anaesthetic numbs the area. Most people compare it to a routine blood draw.
How often should I have a Pap smear?
Every 3 years for women 21–65, or every 5 years if combined with HPV testing. Follow your gynaecologist's advice for high-risk situations.
