What is Uroflowmetry?
Uroflowmetry measures the speed and volume of urine flow during voiding. It is a simple, painless first-line test for evaluating lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) like weak stream, hesitancy, frequency, urgency or incomplete emptying. It is commonly used in men with suspected BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) and in women with voiding dysfunction.
How the test is performed
You arrive with a comfortably full bladder, then urinate into a specially designed flow meter. The whole test takes 5–10 minutes. Reports include peak flow rate (Qmax), average flow rate, voided volume and a flow curve interpreted by a urologist.
