EEG in Delhi
Electroencephalogram (EEG) at Classic Diagnostics — non-invasive recording of brain electrical activity to evaluate seizures, sleep disorders and neurological complaints.
What is an EEG?
An EEG records electrical activity of the brain using small electrodes placed on the scalp. It is the primary diagnostic test for epilepsy, seizures, encephalopathy, and many sleep and consciousness disorders. The standard recording lasts 20–40 minutes and is completely painless.
When is an EEG recommended?
Suspected epilepsy or unexplained seizures · loss of consciousness · recurrent headaches · evaluation of brain function after head injury · sleep disorders · suspected encephalitis or encephalopathy · pre-surgical assessment for neurological surgery · monitoring of dementia or developmental delay.
Preparation & what to expect
Wash your hair the night before (no oil/conditioner/spray on the day). Sleep less than usual if a sleep-deprived EEG is requested. Avoid caffeine on the day. During the test, you lie quietly while light flashes and breathing exercises are performed. Sedation is rarely needed.
